Long Beach, California is a beach community with a population of 492,642 (Jan 2009), the fifth largest city in California. As well, Long Beach is the second largest city within the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The city completely surrounds the city of Signal Hill.

Long Beach is centrally located to all major areas and attractions in the Southern California area and are a short drive away: Downtown Los Angeles (20 minutes), Universal Studios in Hollywood (45 minutes), San Diego City limits (90 minutes), skiing at Bear Mountain (2 hours), Tijuana, Mexico (2 hours), the desert (2 hours) or Las Vegas (4.5 hours).

Where to Live in Long Beach

Long Beach is comprised of 52 neighborhoods. If you are looking for a rental close to CSULB, the university is located in Los Altos (bordered by Clark Avenue on the west, Studebaker Avenue on the east, Interstate 405 and Willow Street on the north, and CSU Long Beach on the South).

Neighborhoods surrounding the University would be Park Estates to the west, Alamitos Heights to the southwest, University Park Estates to the south, Bixby Hill to the southeast and El Dorado South to the northeast. If you want more of a beach scene and still be close to CSULB, try searching in the Belmont Park, Belmont Shore, Peninsula or Naples (famous for its canals!) neighborhoods.
